Every point was hard says Thail captain Wilavan

Thailand's Pleumjit Thinkow notched 10 points in the win over the Dominican Republic

Komaki, Japan, June 16, 2012 - In the second round of the 2012 FIVB World Grand Prix on Saturday Thailand picked up their fourth win of the tournament against the Dominican Republic. While this was a relatively easy match, they face a tough challenge against hosts Japan on Sunday.

Dominican Republic coach Marcos Kweik: “Congratulations to the Thailand team. Today our team played according to our planned tactics, better than yesterday. Thailand is a good, strong team. In the first we needed time to get our rhythm, but in the second and third sets our level was improved and we had better rhythm. We hope to improve on this tomorrow.”

Dominican Republic captain Milagros Cabral de la Cruz: “The Thailand team was really speedy with excellent combinations today that we couldn’t stop. Looking ahead to tomorrow’s match, we’ll try to do our best.” On serving: “Thailand’s serving was aggressive and strong. They were aggressive with the same rhythm until the end of the match, and we couldn’t keep up their serve. Their attacking pattern was good during key points and it resulted in unforced errors on our side. We had good and bad serves, but theirs was consistently good, and that made a big difference.”

Thailand captain Wilavan Apinyapong: “We’re very happy for today’s win. Every point was hard against the Dominicans. They’re a very good team — strong, with a big block and a powerful attack. We must give a hundred percent on each point. We can learn a lot from this game, as there were some mistakes that we try to improve on for the next game. We wish the Dominican Republic good luck in their next match.” On facing Japan tomorrow: “We will play our best and give a hundred percent on every point, and try to stick to our game plan.”

Thailand coach Radchatagriengkai Kiattipong: “Thanks to the Dominican Republic team for good play today and showing strong spirit, even though they have guaranteed their trip to the Olympics already. It was very good for our players to learn today. It was difficult to get each and every points, and I congratulate our players for doing their best today. We’ll try to improve in the next game. I wish the Dominican Republic good luck in next game as well as in the Olympics.” On facing Japan tomorrow: “We will do as our captain says. We’ll go back and check the computer and see how Japan plays and look at their strategy. We’ll address problems with our team and try to do our best.”
