The Asian Senior Men's Volleyball Championship

Tehran, Iran, September 21, 2011 – The Asian Senior Men's Volleyball Championship comes back to the city of Tehran after 12 years since 1999. The biennial competition sets stage for the top men's volleyball teams in Asia.
The 16th edition showcases 16 teams who will vie for the much-coveted Asian Senior Men's Championship trophy and the ticket to the Men's World to be held in November in Japan.
Australia, China, Japan and Korea are the only four countries to have participated in all 16 tournaments – each team has won at least a gold medal. Defending champions Japan has been the most dominant team in the last 15 editions of the Asian Championship with 7 Gold medals followed by Korea (4), China (3) and Australia (1).
Korea has won a total of 14 medals making it as the most consistent podium finisher since 1975. Only six teams have reached the podium in the Asian Men's Championship: Japan, Korea, China, Australia, Iran and Kazakhstan.
Japan, China and Korea are the only countries to have won back-to-back titles: Japan (1983 and 1987), China (1997 and 1999) and Korea (2001 and 2003).
Australia, Korea, Thailand and Iran have hosted the Championship at least once: Australia (Melbourne in 1995 and Perth in 1991), Korea (Seoul in 1989 and 1995, and Changwon in 2001), Thailand (Nakhon Ratchasima in 1993 and Suphanburi in 2005), and Iran (Tehran in 1999 and 2011).
